You realize you made me google the Silvester thingie and I wandered off into German humor, never to be seen again….
What does the quote mean, anyway?

Ellroon, it’s a parody on the old folklore weather forecast rhymes, which we also have in English (“Red sky at night, sailors delight, red sky in the morning, sailors take warning” for example). There are many of them in Bavaria and Tirol. This one simply says, “If Sylvstester’s Day (Dec 31) is bright and clear, the next day will be New Year.”
