Ammer and Amper

A New Year’s Day walk to the shoreline, along with a few hundred other locals itching to get out of the house. It’s tradition, after all. While America flops on the couch to watch The Game, Germany herds the family out for a post-dinner walk. It’s ultra spiessig but actually a nice habit to get into.

The fair weather allowed one to see the mountains clearly. The church spire is from the former cloister at Diessen.

From the lake, one can follow the Amper into the nature reserve. There are no marked trails here (and the whole area is off-limits during avian breeding months) but there are narrow paths up to a certain point.

And, there are beavers. Apparently very industrious ones.
