Surf’s Up, Leute!

It may be a stretch to “like” an airport, but Munich is at the top of my list as far as friendliness, ease of movement, natural light, and services (a post office and a full-size supermarket, even). The courtyard between the two terminals offers seasonal enjoyments (a Biergarten at Oktoberfest, a skating rink in winter), but I think this is the first time they’ve put in a surfing pool!
Of course, it’s not for passengers on layover to take a swim (that would be just too awesome) but for the Surf and Style European Competition this month. However, the pool has times reserved after the competition for “surfing for everyone”, and for kids’ surf camp.

You may not think of landlocked Munich as a surfing town, but there’s action downtown on the Eisbach, where the river forms a one-meter-high standing wave ( for experienced surfers only.)
