For some of you, this one will need explaining. What looks like Arabic text is actually a quote from Andreas Hofer (led an uprising, wanted by the authorities, betrayed by one of his men, executed, revered as a martyr — does this sound familiar?) It says Mander, es isch Zeit (Men, it’s time), a famous Hofer quotation. The painting itself is a well-known one of Hofer, with only the head changed and the text added. It was part of an interesting Andreas Hofer exhibit at the museum a couple of years ago, about hero status, and cult of personality.
