>Rooftop Status Update (for Ellroon)

One afternoon about two weeks ago a crane showed up with the railing.

The frame after the second window will have some kind of separation panel installed, beyond it is the neighbor’s terrace.

And today they started pouring stones into the no-man’s-land between the railing and the rain gutter. My first thought was that a strong enough Föhn wind will blow them onto cars in the street below, below I guess these guys know what they’re doing. My new hope is that they be done by Palm Sunday (former hopes were for end of November, Christmas, end of March…), nearly all the outdoor plants (the trees and shrubs) have bit the dust from the winter indoors. The Beau’s numerous cacti will be happy to be out into the sun next month.

    >And yay, a new boiler was installed in the apartment within 5 hours of my having called! My landlord's going to have an attack when he sees what it cost, though.

    >OoOo! That looks wonderful… and very open. Was it that open before? Or am I just remembering your wonderful balcony garden that made it feel more enclosed? Is the paper/plastic sheeting the rocks are going on sticky? Maybe that will prevent people from being showered with pebbles down below? (Do you really get winds that hard? Sounds like our Santa Ana winds that have ripped off my roof shingles before… (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Ana_winds))

    >The plastic only covers the inside half, and as far as I know is not sticky. We do get very strong gusts here, I have lost suction thermometers to the winds in the past. Probably the stones can't get "lift" from the air. But if kids lived up here, you know they'd be trying to hit the other roofs with them!
