>Hate Crimes Are Up

>A summary of a recent article in my local rag, titled “Right-wing Extremists Flood Austria”:

Austrian authorities have reported a rise in right-wing extremism since 2007, seeing a total of reported incidents rise last year to 791. These incidents for the most part involved racist, xenophobic and antisemitic hate speech, vandalism, and sending hate-crime materials via mail, e-mail and texting. 14 cases involved physical assault, and two people were reported injured.

Between 2000 and 2007 the annual number of reported right-wing extremist crimes stayed level for the most part at between 400 and 500. A significant rise was seen in 2007 with 752 cases, and 853 in 2008.
