>I’m in Munich and it’s been awfully quiet today. Even the cashiers at Tengelmann had a sort of fatalistic, dreamy look about them. Clearly a lot of Germans feel as if someone they love has let them down. On the other hand, the front page of a local newspaper today had, in giant print, “KOPF HOCH” — chin up, mates, you did us all proud. There are still flags on cars; it ain’t over, the game for third place takes place Saturday night; but the electricity that was surging through the air has clearly subsided.
